These Hurricanes Were So Bad, Their Names Were Retired

Which hurricanes do you remember?

Written by Mary Ann Barton

With the recent naming of the first tropical storm of the 2014 season, we wondered about some of the names that will never darken the door of the National Hurricane Center again.

Why? Because the NHC, in an annual meeting with the World Meteorological Organization, banishes storms that are so deadly or costly that the future use of its name on a different storm would be inappropriate for obvious reasons of sensitivity, according to the NHC.
