Will Tropical Storm Arthur Impact CT on 4th of July Weekend? [UPDATED]

So far, it's looking pretty good for Connecticut weather this holiday weekend, but there could be some powerful thunderstorms toward the end of the week.

Update: The tropical depression has now reached tropical storm strength and officially gains the name Arthur, according to Meteorologist Gil Simmons.

"Friday is iffy but this looks like a miss for us," he said via Facebook. "Just some rain..."

Fourth of July weekend is coming up and since we live in New England and it's hurricane season, naturally, we may have to deal with some wild weather.

Technically, Tropical Storm Arthur isn't Arthur yet — the storm activity is referred to as a tropical depression at the moment. Meteorologist Gil Simmons tweeted the following update the morning on July 1:

“TD1 [Tropical Depression 1] to Tropical Storm Arthur to Hurricane Arthur over the next few days and South of New England. Minimal impact for CT as of now.”

But there is some rain in the forecast to be on the lookout for, especially if your town is hosting fireworks shows on Thursday, July 3.

The National Weather Service predicts that rain may arrive on Wednesday, July 2, and will leave the state Friday morning/early afternoon.

  • Tuesday: Sunny, hot, high near 85
  • Tuesday Night: Mostly cloudy, low around 66.
  • Wednesday: 40 percent chance of showers after 11 a.m. May include gusty winds and heavy rain. High near 88.
  • Wednesday Night: 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Patchy fog after midnight. Low around 70.
  • Thursday: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 9 a.m. Heavy rain may fall. High near 85.
  • Thursday Night: 70 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. May feature heavy rain. Low around 65.

The Weekend’s Weather

  • Friday, Independence Day: 60 percent chance of showers, mainly before noon. High near 77, mostly cloudy.
  • Friday Night: 30 percent chance of showers. Low of 59.

As for Saturday and Sunday, the days will be sunny with a high near 80, and the nights will be cool and clear, with a low of around 60. That, Simmons said, makes this the fifth nice weather weekend in a row.
