Suspect in Statutory Rape Case Does Not Plea; Seeks Private Attorney

Christo Easter, 18, of Middletown, appeared in court this past week.

An 18-year-old Middletown man accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old in a statutory rape case is seeking a private attorney to represent him in his case.

The Middletown Press reported that Christo Easter was supposed to enter a plea during his appearance in Middlesex Superior Court on Monday, however he instead requested that he be able to hire private council rather than stick with a public defender.

Easter faces two counts of risk of injury to a minor and second-degree sexual assault, stemming from allegations that he engaged in sexual relations with a 14-year-old girl on Jan. 21. The girl is now pregnant and police believe the child is his.

The victim's mother reported the assault to police in February.
