City Man Charged With 2nd-Degree Sex Assault of Minor

Cristo Easter was arrested for sexual assault in an incident police say took place this past January in Middletown.

An 18-year-old city man was arraigned in Middlesex Superior Court Monday on charges he had sexual relations with a minor.

Cristo J. Easter, 18, of Grove Street was picked up on an outstanding warrant on May 10 on charges from an alleged assault that took place Jan. 21, according to court documents.

Easter, accompanied by his mother, told Judge David P. Gold he understood and would abide by the protective order for a female minor known only as M.J. that he make no attempts to contact her or the girl's mother. Gold also told Easter he was unable to purchase of possess firearms.

He has not secured a lawyer, so Gold urged him to apply for a public defender.

"No contact means no contact," Gold said, "even if she were to contact you." Violation of the order, Gold told Easter, could mean up to five years in prison.

Easter was charged with two counts risk of injury to a child and second-degree sexual assault, is out on $150,000 bond and due back in court on June 3.

In Connecticut, a person is guilty of second-degree sexual assault when he or she engages in sexual intercourse with another person and: such other person is 13 years or older but under 16 and the offender is more than two years older than the victim.

It's considered a class B felony and penalties include imprisonment  "of which nine months of the sentence imposed may not be suspended or reduced by the court," according to Connecticut statute.
