157 Mercy Grads Step Toward a Hopeful Future

Clad in all white and toes painted blue, 157 young ladies of Mercy High School's class of 2013 stepped hopefully toward their future in a ceremony Thursday night in Middletown.

The auditorium was jam packed with graduates, friends and family as President Sr. Mary McCarthy told students of her pride at the girls' "confidence, compassion and great generosity" in the face of challenges.

McCarthy spoke of the death this past spring of an underclass woman who's funeral was held at Mercy and "I watched you reach out immediately and step toward the juniors who were hurting terribly."

Valedictorian Alexandra Femc acknowledged the natural abilities and gifts of her fellow graduates, adding, "Mercy has polished them to perfection."

"As we go out into the world, we will never forget where we came from," Femc said.
