PD: Woman Invaded Ex's Home, Assaulted With Brass Knuckles

Middletown Police say the teen entered her former boyfriend's home and, as his mother watched, assaulted him while he was asleep.

The following police report is obtained directly from the Middletown Police public information officer and inclusion on this list reflect charges filed, not convictions.

A 19-year-old city woman who entered the home of her ex-boyfriend and struck him with brass knuckles while he was asleep is facing a felony home invasion charge, according to Middletown Police.

On July 25 at 9:30 a.m., a male victim was sleeping in his home on Traverse Square when his ex-girlfriend Shaina Velez, 19, of Town Colony Drive entered uninvited, police say. His mother, the report says, witnessed Velez walk directly to the second floor, where she saw her punch the man while he was lying in bed.

She was charged with second-degree assault and home invasion, a felony.

When officers arrived, Velez had a pair of brass knuckles in her hand and was trying to strike her ex in the head, the report says. His lip was cut during the altercation, police say, and Velez refused to give police details.

Home invasion is a class A felony and any person found guilty is sentenced to 10 years in jail and it may not be suspended or reduced by the court, according to Connecticut state law.
