PD: Man With 12 DUI Convictions Drove After Consuming 30 Beers

The man's son told Middletown Police his father's intoxication resulted from his consuming 30 beers throughout the day.

Police reports are obtained from the Middletown Police public information officer and inclusion on this list reflect charges filed, not convictions.

MIDDLETOWN, CT — A 57-year-old city man with 12 drunken driving convictions was charged for the 13th time after drinking a 30-pack of beer and driving his sports utility vehicle erratically, according to police.

On May 12 at 9:20 p.m., police received a call about a man driving his Ford Explorer SUV erratically on Newfield Street.

According to the report, Jose D. Dosreis, 57, of Bailey Road tried to make a right turn from the left lane onto Westfield Street and hit the road's center island. In the truck, Dosreis waited at a red light then "lurched forward," the report indicates, and drove in the middle of both west- and east-bound lanes and pulled into his driveway.

Still inside the SUV, police say, Dosreis smelled heavily of alcohol, looked at the officer and said, "I'm drunk," slurred his words incomprehensibly and nearly fell over.

The report says Dosreis admitted to consuming "too much" alcohol and had difficulty sitting up then refused a sobriety test. Dosreis' son came out of the house and told police his father had been drinking since noon, had consumed close to a 30-pack of beer, and three hours before, the son had to physically prevent his father from driving, according to the report.

Back at the station, police say, he nearly fell over several times and police discovered Dosreis had 12 DUI convictions in the past 12 years, to which he responded by shrugging and, "I do my time; I get out."

When police questioned him about the possibility of returning to jail, the report says, Dosreis said, "It'll be a three-month vacation then I'll be out again."

"At no point during my interaction with Dosreis did he show any regrets about his decision to drive while intoxicated or his past DUI convictions," the officer wrote in the report. He was charged with operation of a motor vehicle with a suspended license, driving under the influence with prior convictions, and failure to drive upon the right.

He's due back in court on May 24.
