PD: Man Stole $100 From Restaurant Register to Repay Heroin Dealer

The Cheshire resident stole the cash during a busy lunch hour at a Main Street eatery, according to Middletown Police.

A Cheshire man is in custody after stealing $100 in twenties from a Main Street restaurant during lunch hour, hoping to repay money he owed a heroin dealer, according to Middletown Police.

On April 17 at 1:01 p.m., police received a call from Brew Bakers restaurant on Main Street about a man who had stolen $100 in twenties from the cash register.

Witnesses said he left through the front door on foot then rode away on a mountain bike.

Officer canvassing the area found Cody Sanford, 22, of Shagbark Court, Cheshire, in a Church Street parking lot changing his clothes.

The report says there was a used hypodermic needle in his packet and $100 in cash in his wallet, which he told officers he needed to pay his heroin dealer. He is on probation, police say, for narcotics-related charges.

He was charged with use of drug paraphernalia and sixth-degree larceny and is being held on a $2,500 bond until a May 1 court date.
