PD: Toddler Found Outside in 2 a.m. Rainstorm Left Babysitter's House

A 29-year-old Middletown woman who was watching the 3-year-old boy overnight is facing a risk of injury charge after police found the boy soaking wet in a diaper and tee-shirt.

A 29-year-old city woman is facing a risk of injury charge after the toddler she was babysitting overnight wandered outside into the street at 2 a.m. during a heavy downpour, according to the report.

On Aug. 27 at 2:28 a.m., a Grove Street resident called police saying she'd found a 3-year-old boy in the street during a heavy rain shower. According to the report, the child was wearing a wet tee-shirt and a pull-up diaper and appeared to be cold.

An hour later, officers found one of the homes on Grove Street had an open door and a search inside turned up Rebecca A. Quinn, 29, who had an 11-month-old baby girl inside.

Quinn, who appeared emotionally upset, told officers she was babysitting the boy and didn't know he had left the home, according to the report, and was found 200 yards away.

Her apartment was well-kept and her boyfriend was present, the report indicates, and Quinn told officers she checked on him at midnight and he was asleep and the front door was locked and closed. A medical check found he was in good health, the report says.

She was charged with risk of injury to a child.
