Middletown Arrests: March 7-22

The following information was provided by the Middletown Police public information officer. An arrest does not constitute a conviction and all defendants are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Middetown Police Report the following incidents:  

March 22

BREACH OF PEACE — Anthony Lopez, 45, of Spice Hill Drive, Meriden, was at social services on Main Street Extension with a female and was swearing because he didn't want to wait, the report says. He said the woman was pregnant and couldn't wait then proceed to keep swearing with a child present, police say, then refused to be handcuffed and led to the car. Outside, the report says, he apologized then asked to be "unarrested." Once processed, he went over to a Mercedes SUV parked in a handicapped spot without a handicapped permit to wait for the woman.

OPERATION MOTOR VEHICLE WHEN LICENSE SUSPENDED — Gina M. Villaran, 23, of Liberty Street was driving on High Street with a back light out, according to police.

VIOLATION OF PROTECTIVE ORDER — At 7:35 p.m., police were called to an apartment on Liberty Street about a person banging and fighting. John Onofrio, 50, of Walnut Street opened the door when police arrived at the noisy apartment and admitted he argued with his girlfriend, the report says, over money. After the protective order was discovered, the report says, Onofrio begged officers not to place him in jail.

NARCOTICS KEPT IN ORIGINAL CONTAINER, SIXTH-DEGREE LARCENY, CREDIT CARD FRAUD, INTERFERENCE WITH SEARCH/ SIMPLE ASSAULT — At 3:37 p.m., police were called to a home on Johnson Street about a larceny by the victim's friend, Scott E. Evans, 28, of Mohegan Trail, East Hampton, who took her ATM card and walked away, according to the report. He was found by police but didn't have the card. The report says Evans was helping the victim pack to move and he left the apartment to check on something abruptly which is when she discovered the card was missing, police say. The friend knew Evans goes to Aresco's Market, and police found he had withdrawn $60 from her account after checking with the bank, the report says. While in the back seat of the cruiser, the report says, police saw Evans "squirming around" and a bottle of pills and hypodermic needle.

March 19

OPERATE UNREGISTERED VEHICLE, INSURANCE COVERAGE FAILS MINIMUM — Michele DeJesus, 36, of Woodbury Circle was driving a Red Toyota Corolla. 

CARRYING DANGEROUS WEAPON, THIRD-DEGREE CRIMINAL MISCHIEF, THIRD-DEGREE ASSAULT — At 9:56 p.m., Raymond Hassenfeldt, 27, of Washington Street was an unwanted person on the porch of a home on Prospect Street. The report says the victim, who had cuts to her face, hands and lump on her head, said she was in bed at 10 p.m. when her ex-neighbor knocked on her door and when she answered he began to punch her until her boyfriend broke up the fight. The report says he damaged the front door and she was brought to the hospital for treatment. Hassenfeldt was found with a 4-½-inch curved cutting edge knife.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT — At 6:55 p.m., police were called to Town Ridge Drive for a domestic involving Rakeem Wright, 22, who fought with his fiancee and it turned physical. The report says he locked her in the balcony and grabbed her when she tried to re-enter the apartment.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT — Police were called to High Street for an unwanted person, which turned into two men fighting inside the house. The report says the victim was watching television with a friend when his roommate Tracy Wood, 50, of High Street was drinking too much and "flipped out for no reason."  She yelled at them to get out of her house, the report says, and was highly intoxicated. Police left but were called back shortly afterward after Wood ripped one of the men's shirt and hit him. The report says she ripped her shirt to make it look like he was the aggressor. 

March 18

DISORDERLY CONDUCT — At 3:48 p.m., Joseph Sanchez, 27, of Meadow Drive, Colchester, was on Front Street when a domestic took place, the report says. The victim said her ex-boyfriend drove away with her dog after coming over at 3 a.m. and banging on the door. The report says she opened the door and asked him to leave several times over the next few hours and he threatened to smash the phone. He kept following her throughout the apartment, police say. Sanchez arrived back while police were interviewing the victim with the dog and was arrested. 

OPERATION MOTOR VEHICLE WHEN REGISTRATION SUSPENDED — At 1:09 p.m., Oscar Solis, 52, of Birdsey Avenue was driving a Nissan Maxima on Vine Street.

OPERATION MOTOR VEHICLE WHEN LICENSE SUSPENDED, RESTRICTED TURN — At 1:30 p.m. Jason Williams, 29, of Cynthia Lane was driving a Cadillac CST on Long Hill Road for not signaling a right turn.

March 17

OPERATION MOTOR VEHICLE WHEN LICENSE SUSPENDED — At 8:08 p.m., Samuel J. Clymer Jr., 47, of Boston Post Road, Westbrook, was driving a Ford Explorer on Pearl Street.

OPERATE UNREGISTERED VEHICLE, OPERATION WITHOUT MINIMUM INSURANCE — Amanda Harris, 27, of Pasco Hill Road, Cromwell, was driving a Chevy Cavalier on East Street.

FAILURE TO RESPOND, THIRD-DEGREE CRIMINAL MISCHIEF, SECOND-DEGREE BREACH OF PEACE — Jetzel Rodriguez, 21, of Washington Street was a passenger in a routine motor vehicle stop and found with an active warrant from Dec. 21, 2011.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT — Police were called to Grove Street about a disturbance where Kelly A. Nowotyski, 33, of Grove Street had kicked Jesse L. Fava, 29, of Town Ridge after a physical fight, the report says. The two had dated prior, the report says, and she left in a cab so he pursued her erratically in his car then fought with her at her home, with Nowotyski punching him in self-defense. While police were investigating, the report says, Fava tried to verbally incite others to fight. 

DISORDERLY CONDUCT, THREATENING, SECOND-DEGREE UNLAWFUL RESTRAINT — At 5:47 p.m., a female came into police headquarters reporting a domestic with her husband, Sidney W. Nelson, 40, of Heather Square, who forced his way into a locked room by breaking the door and got physical with her, threatened her and held her against her will, the report says. 

March 16

OPERATION MOTOR VEHICLE WHEN LICENSE SUSPENDED — At 11:03 p.m., Dillon J. Hofher, 24, of South Main Stree twas driving a Nissan Altima on South Main Street when an officer saw him pull out of the Citgo gas station onto Warwick Street without signaling. 

OPERATION MOTOR VEHICLE WHEN LICENSE SUSPENDED, DEFECTIVE WINDSHIELD — Brendon T. Lynn, 23, of Long Hill Road, Middlefield, was driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee on Prospect Street with a cracked windshield. 

SECOND-DEGREE FAILURE TO APPEAR — Pedro Y. Vante, 21, of Gurdon Street, Bridgeport, was a passenger in a routine motor vehicle stop and found with an outstanding warrant from Jan. 11.

VIOLATION RESTRAINING ORDER — At 9:15 p.m., police saw a woman crouched on Main Street at the corner of a nail salon business entrance crying. She said nothing was wrong, the report says, only that she was depressed. Luis J. Jorge, 37, of Botsford Street, Meriden, walked toward officers, the report says, and yelled to police that was his wife who suffers from bipolar disorder and had been acting normally in the car. 

VIOLATION PROTECTIVE ORDER, FIRST-DEGREE CRIMINAL TRESPASS — At 5:15 p.m.,  Rodney E. Privott, 55, of Newfield Terrace was driving a Chevy Trailblazer on Wadsworth Street and failed to stop at West Street, the report says. He was found with an outstanding warrant.

March 15

OPERATION MOTOR VEHICLE WHEN LICENSE SUSPENDED — At 5:09 p.m., Gregory Clancey, 38, of Ingraham Place, Bristol, was driving an Infinity on Westlake Drive without a front license plate and dark tinted front windows.

BREACH OF PEACE — Police were at Mezzo Grille on Court Street when they saw a male and female leave the bar. Michael A. Caprio, 34, of Greenview Drive, Portland, looked intoxicated, the report says, and stumbled into the street. Officers saw him punch the woman really hard in the arm, causing her to fall. The woman told officers she was fine and that the two have a child together so she didn't want him arrested.

March 14

IMPROPER USE MARKER PLATE, OPERATE UNREGISTERED VEHICLE, INSURANCE COVERAGE FAILS MINIMUM — At 5:20 p.m., police checking cars for motor vehicle violations stopped Bridget Given, 48, of Wilcox Drive, Durham.

March 10 

DISORDERLY CONDUCT, INTERFERING WITH OFFICER — Police were called to Maplewood Terrace about a woman, her boyfriend and a small child in a car being harassed by four men. The report says the male in the car was assaulted by Buford Baldwin, 39, of Maplewood Terrace, who was yelling and drawing a crowd. Baldwin held up his phone, saying he was videotaping the interaction, the report says. Denzel Dempsey, 18, of Maplewood Terrace, one of the crowd members refused to give his name; his grandmother identified him, the report says. He was charged with interfering with an officer. 

March 7

SIXTH-DEGREE LARCENY — At 2:41 p.m., police were called to Main Street about a suspicious person trying to open car doors. They found James Spada, 40, of Grand Street looking inside cars but told officers he thought the car was his friend's, the report says. He then admitted to looking for money to buy cigarettes, and denied having a drug problem.
