Will You Miss Xavier, MHS Thanksgiving Game?

The athletic directors of both the Middletown Blue Dragons and Xavier Falcons football teams announced this week they are discontinuing the November matchup that's been held for the past 15 years.

We heard the rumor during last year's Thanksgiving Day football game, as the Middletown High School fans erupted into foot stomps and cheers and the band played its fight song.

It wasn't until Thursday, when the Middletown Press confirmed the news — that Middletown High Athletic Director Michael Pitruzzello and Xavier High Athletic Director Anthony Jaskot announced the city teams would not play on Thanksgiving in 2013.

After Middletown won the first two games in 1998 and 1999, Xavier has won 12 of the last 13, including one-sided games in each of the past two seasons, according to the Press.

In 2012, led by quarterback Tim Boyle and running back DeAngelo Berry, the Xavier Falcons dominated the Blue Dragons 41-14 to win the city championship. In 2011, the Falcons  annihilated the Blue Dragons, 48-6. And in 2010, Xavier defeated Middletown 48-6 in the Thanksgiving Day game at Wesleyan.

In light of the news, we're wondering what Middletown Patch readers think. Will you miss the game played at Wesleyan University's Corbin Stadium every November? Or is this expected news?
