Middletown Canoe, Kayak Launch Delayed

The launch won't be installed until 2014.

Plans to create a canoe and kayak launch on the Coginchaug River in Middletown have stalled.

In a letter posted on the Middletown Eye website, one of the reviewing and permitting agencies that had to sign off on the launch is requiring "a more finely detailed report."

The Middletown Eye did not specify what agency that is, however The Middletown Press reported that this news comes on the heels of an Army Corps of Engineers request of a more detailed report on acquatic vegetation in the area of the launch.

Plans began last fall to create a ramp that would allow kayakers and boaters to easily bring their small vessels into the river. The launch would be located near the city's recycling center.

The Jonah Center for Earth and Art initially proposed the launch in 2005 and in 2007 helped the City secure a $50,000 U.S. Dept. of Transportation grant.
