Jeanne Mainville Denalsky, right, and Suzanne Sabia are friends first and co-owners of Pastels Catering second. It all began at Simsbury High School where they met and became best friends; that friendship continued during their years at the University of Connecticut. In 1984, their first business venture together was becoming part of the French deli-style restaurant located on Wilcox Street.
The focus was on fresh foods with a gourmet flare — a trend that would become wildly popular years later.
Having been involved with the venture from the beginning, they fell in love with the food business and took over completely in 1991. At that time they transitioned from the restaurant to the catering end of the business full time.
The success of their business is mainly the result of word of mouth advertising and a large repeat client base. Some have been clients for more than 20 years.
Both are married, reside in town and have children attending the Simsbury Public Schools.
Besides being successful business women, they strive to maintain active community involvement.
