The patrol division divides the city's 42-square-mile area into six districts and uses cars, motorcycles, bicycles and several walking beats. It also heads up a traffic unit that investigates accidents, a full-time animal-control officer and several part-time specialized units including: a marine-diving team, an emergency-response team, a canine unit, motorcycle and bicycle units, and the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) program.
Detectives, a street-crime unit and a narcotics task force are the purview of an investigative services division. The department also has a records bureau.
