Middletown High School was founded in 1840. Although the location of the school building has changed over the years, as an institution, it remains the oldest secondary public school in Connecticut. The vocational agriculture program aims to prepare students for careers in agriculture or for entrance into two- or four-year colleges. Students attending the program come from Chester, Clinton, Cromwell, Deep River, Durham, East Hampton, Essex, Guilford, Haddam, Killingworth, Madison, Middlefield, Middletown, Portland, Old Saybrook, Rocky Hill and Westbrook.
