This office works closely with the Secretary of the State's office to ensure elections and referendums are conducted according to state laws. Registrars are responsible for voter education, updating lists of registered voters, maintaining voting machines, training election officials and making sure operations at the polls run smoothly. They also appoint a head moderator to declare the results of an election for the municipality. There is one registrar for the Republican Party and one for the Democratic Party; both are elected to two-year terms. The agency's offices are in the basement of city hall.
