The death of the 35th President of the United States shocked the nation and as adults grappled with the news, children were sent home from school early. What are your recollections?

This Friday marks the 50th anniversary of the one of the darkest days in the nation's history — the day that President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas on Nov. 22, 1963 at age 46  just after noon as his motorcade made its way through Dealey Plaza.

As word of the tragedy spread during this tense time of Cold War, people wondered if the attack was part of a larger plot targeting Americans. The news drove people to department stores where they gathered in front of television screens and learned their fears were confirmed.
