Breast Cancer Awareness Month at Froyoworld – Laura Hess ‘16

On Sunday, October 13, Froyoworld in Middletown will be participating in a goPINK fundraising event.  All day, a percentage of their sales will go to The Middlesex Hospital Comprehensive Breast Center, which provides radiological, surgical, risk assessment, and support services.

In addition to donating a percentage of their sales, Froyoworld will also have fun, pink-themed items.  There will be goPINK tank tops until they sell out, pink hair extensions between 12 and 2 o’clock, and special pink toppings, such as pink oreos.  Plus, their mascot, ELFY, will be there to take pictures from 1:00-3:00.

I spoke with Shelly, the general manager.  For her, this fundraiser is not just a nice thing to do – it’s personal.  After her mother and aunt had breast cancer in their 40s, Shelly became committed to helping the cause.  She believes that there isn’t enough knowledge out there about routine and genetic testing.  When she found out about The Middlesex Hospital Comprehensive Breast Center, she was more than willing to help out.  She believes that it is an important center because “it helps people beyond treatment”.  Breast cancer is extremely taxing on the patient, as well as her family.  This center tries to address all aspects of breast cancer suffering, offering as much support as possible.

So, this Sunday, head to Froyoworld on Main St, to get a great dessert for a great cause.
