Breakfast for Veterans, a Movie, a Community Supper, and More in Middletown This Weekend

Check out what is going on in the region this weekend.

Read and Recycle
Saturday, 10 a.m. - The Friends of the Portland Library’s “Read & Recycle” program will collect donations of gently used books, puzzles, CDs, DVDs and games. This is a great opportunity to clear off those bookshelves to make room for new holiday gifts. The Friends especially need Romance paperback books in preparation for FPL’s annual “Love is in the Air” sale, which they hope to hold in February. Donations of children’s books (all ages) are also very much needed. All donated items must be in “sellable” condition. FPL cannot accept items that are dirty, moldy or in poor condition. No textbooks, business books, computer books, self-help books, or magazines, please. Donors may enter through the Library’s side door, and volunteers will be available to help carry donations. Donations are tax-deductible and acknowledgement forms will be available. Donated items are sold at various Friends’ book sales held throughout the year. All proceeds are used to support programs of the Portland Library, including the Library’s DVD collection, Museum Pass Program, and a wide variety of children’s, family and adult programs held throughout the year.

Breakfast for Veterans
Sunday, 8 a.m. - Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 5095 and the Ladies Auxiliary are hosting a public breakfast on Sunday. Breakfast consists of eggs, pancakes, bacon, sausage, home fries, toast, coffee, juice, and fruit. The cost is $7 per person and everyone is welcome to attend. Movie: Despicable Me 2

Starring the voices of Carell, Benjamin Bratt, Russell Brand, Miranda Cosgrove, Steve Coogan and Kristen Wiig.

Community Pool Party
Sunday, 4 p.m. - Two hours of pool time will be followed by a pizza party in the private room of the facility. The cost for the evening is $10 per adult, $5 per child, with a family rate not to exceed $30. Payment is required in advance, along with RSVP. To RSVP, contact Beryl Bloch at 203-949-0651 or by e-mail at BerylBloch@aol.com.

Community Supper
Sunday, 5:30 p.m. - The main meal will be prepared by the Knights of Columbus and desserts will be provided by the Church of the Epiphany parishioners. Come and celebrate the New Year. Reunite with old friends and meet new friends as everyone lets go of the old year and prepares for the new. This outreach program is for everyone, not only those in need. Start a new resolution to attend the monthly suppers. All are invited and all are welcome!
