North End Action Team Celebrates End of Fine Summer at Garden Party

A live, homegrown Reggae band, dozens of hors d'oeuvres from Middletown restaurants, a drawing wall and exotic floral arrangements marked the 11th annual event — held indoors this year at the Green Street Arts Center.

It may have been less-than-stellar weather outdoors, but inside was filled to capacity with local "stars" at the recent North End Action Team Garden Party at the Green Street Arts Center in Middletown.

The party was moved indoors after recent rains made the Erin Street Community Garden grounds a soggy platform for socializing, dancing and hors d'oeuvres passing.

The Middletown-based seven-piece, heavy brass reggae band Buru Style, with special guest saxophonist Dave Davies, a recent addition to the city's Arts Commission, kept the mood light and happy.

The upper level of the Green Streets Arts Center held dozens and dozens of North End children, who eagerly passed trays of local restaurant's appetizers — like sweet potato fries from It's Only Natural, empinadas from Iguanas Ranas, chicken wings from Eli Cannon's, vegetable tikki and pakora from Tandoor, spinach and potato puffs from Esca and so much more.

Tables adorned with exotic floral arrangements from Catherine Epright and the Green Dahlia added a sophisticated tough to the festivities.
