Local Leaders to be 'Jailed' for Good Cause

Local business leaders, among them Middletown Patch editor Cassandra Day, will be heading to "jail" April 26 to raise "bail" for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Local business leaders will be heading to “jail” April 26 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the (the former Harbor Park) in Middletown to raise “bail” for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Community business leaders including the Mayor of Middletown, Middletown firefighters and fire marshal, the acting police chief, Wesleyan University department heads, the Cromwell Town Planner, East Haddam Building Inspector and Middletown Patch editor Cassandra Day will be arrested at their place of business and transported to the Mattabesett Canoe Club, 80 Harbor Drive, to serve their time at the local MDA Lock-Up.

At the club, the “jailbirds” will be served complimentary “jail” food while they each attempt to raise at least $2,400 in bail money.

This year, the local MDA has set a goal to raise more than $30,000 at the event, which will send 38 Connecticut children living with a neuromuscular disease to summer camp this year. Funds will also be used to continue ground-breaking research in the quest to find a cure.

MDA is the nonprofit health agency dedicated to curing muscular dystrophy, ALS and related diseases by funding worldwide research. The Association also provides comprehensive health care and support services, advocacy and education. The majority of contributions to MDA come from individual donors.
