Community Barbecue Kicks off AmeriCorps Service Project

12 HealthCorps members will cycle and walk across the state to lead service projects with the community in Enfield, New Britain, Meriden and Clinton.

AmeriCorps members hosted a free barbecue at the Luis Lopez Community Garden on the corner of Main and Green streets in Middletown Thursday to mark AmeriCorps Week.

Twelve community HealthCorps members from the Community Health Center left from Middletown Friday morning for the Going the Distance to Build Healthy Communities project. They will cycle and walk across the state to lead service projects with community members in Enfield, New Britain, Meriden and Clinton.

Those who came for Thursday's meal were encouraged to drop off non-perishable food items for the St. Vincent de Paul soup kitchen.
