Who Are We?

We are Summer Brook Valley Farm Alpacas at 132 Margarite Rd. Extension, Middletown, CT. 860-550-1395

Len and Bobbie Tundermann

Many people know Len who used to be on the Conservation Commission and who used to work at Midstate Regional Planning Agency. Len did much of the legwork necessary to get the MAT Transportation System started in Middletown.

Bobbie has been a member of Altrusa InternationaL of Central CT since 1979, participating in many service projects in Middletown. She was president of this service club twice and was Governor of District One in 2000.
She also helped direct the Bicentennial Event in Middletown in 1976. Dr. Bobbie Tundermann recently retired as a School Psychologist at Duffy Elementary School in West Hartford, CT.

Many people ask us,"How did you get started with alpacas?"

After a couple of years of looking at and falling in love with Alpacas and Llamas at the Durham Fair and the North American Alpaca Show in Springfield, MA, we decided to get serious! The first step was to find out about the fiber industry and spinning.

June 2003, Bobbie went to a Beginners Spinning Class at Fletcher Farm School for Arts and Crafts operated by the Society of Vermont Craftsmen, Inc. in Ludlow, Vermont with instructor, Jeannine Bakridges. Jeannine is a resident of Whitingham, VT, and an enthusiastic hand-spinner with an art education background. She has won awards in the US and Canada.

Bobbie made so many new friends, and had a great time. In fact, she bought a spinning wheel on the way home to Connecticut at Webs in Northampton, MA – a Lendrum Folding Wheel (double treadle), which is made in Canada. She joined two spinning guilds – Nutmeg Spinners (the Connecticut State Guild) and Madley Spinners (Colchester, CT).

Alpaca Farmers are such a wonderful group of people. We love to show our animals at Alpaca Shows, sell our yarn, and visit schools and retirement establishments with our wonderful, gentle animals. We could never stop being alpaca farmers now. It is too much fun!
