Fireworks return to Middletown this summer, as the city and present an Independence Day Fireworks Festival July 3 from 6-10 p.m. on the front lawn of City Hall at 245 DeKoven Drive.
The event will include activities for children, music from a variety of live bands, select vendors, and fireworks shot high over the Connecticut River at 9:30 p.m.
In 2010 and 2011, the city's common council slashed fireworks funding due to budgetary constraints and the 2009 was reinstated by the council after former Mayor Sebastian N. Giuliano removed them to balance his spending package.
Music begins with the talented Middletown High School Jazz Band at 6 p.m. followed by the headliner, Sweet Daddy Cool Breeze and their Chicago-style boogie and blues, and we end the night with the impressive sounds of the Middletown Symphonic Band, who will build the music up to match the fireworks and play stirring music while the fireworks light the night sky.
Rain date is July 6.
The event is free with free parking downtown. Call (860) 344-3401 for details.
