Hydrants to Spray Cool Relief Today as Temps Soar

You don't even need a bathing suit: Middletown will be opening select fire hydrants around the city Thursday as it'll feel as hot as 104 degrees this afternoon.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Middletown and Northern Middlesex County through 7 p.m. as heat indices are expected to be in the upper 90s.

A heat advisory is issued when the combination of heat and humidity are expected to make it feel like temperatures are 100 to 104 degrees for at least two consecutive hours, according to the NWS.

No residents took advantage of the cooling centers designated by the city Wednesday, which saw heat indices as high as 104 degrees, according to Bruce Driska, Emergency Management Director.
