Farmers Market Boasts Cherries, Plums, Many Veggies Now in Season

Even with a lunchtime restaurant hitch and a smoking food truck, today's North End Farmers Market had a range of healthy and handmade offerings.

 

, the restaurant which was supposed to serve lunch today, had a scheduling conflict and couldn't make it, said executive director Izzi Greenberg.

Remembering the grilled cheese food truck was set to stop by, she breathed a sigh of relief.

But it was shortlived. "Their truck caught on fire on the highway so they're trying to fix it," Greenberg said at 11 a.m. Alas, try as they did, Jillian and Joshua Moskites vehicular mishap wasn't repaired in time.

"Sad news for today — our beloved truck has decided to take the day off so we will not be out for lunch today," read the Whey Station Facebook post.

"We will have her back out ASAP."

On Thursday, devotees of the artisan cheese truck were thrilled to hear the Whey Station would be trying out a new item, a "Mac-n-Monger; cavateppi with our special super cheesy blend topped with crispy bacon crumble. All we can say is 'yum.'"

The market continues July 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in front of It's Only Natural Market on Main Street in Middletown.
