Cukes Coming Out Your Ears? Drowning in Tomatoes? Donate Them to Hungry!

Middletown's Amazing Grace Food Pantry asks home gardeners to consider bringing their extra vegetables and fruits as nutritious donations to supplement dried goods offered to its patrons.

We surely have been experiencing the "dog days" of summer for the past several weeks. Not much thrives with this hot, sticky weather except the backyard gardens that so many people take tremendous pride in having.

The harvests that aren't at their peak now soon will be. Even a moderate size family with several prolific tomato, green bean or basil plants can only consume so many of these ripe, vegetables and herbs fruits before they become overwhelming.

Nothing is more appetizing and nutritious than fresh vegetables and fruits. Unfortunately, even in their peak season, they are expensive at the store or farm stand. Finding a home for the bounty of fresh and nutritious fruits and vegetables can be a challenge. How many bags full of squash, tomatoes, and sweet corn can your friends or work colleagues use?
