The lecture and discussions will be presented by author and University of Delaware Professor of English and Journalism, McKay Jenkins Monday April 8th in the Middletown Community Health Center on 675 Main St. at 7pm. Letter from Italy, 1944, a dramatic oratorio to tell the story of one soldier, Dr. John Meneely, his family and his battles waged beyond a war, will be Sunday April 28th at 4pm in Middletown High School’s new Performing Arts Center.

John Meneely’s daughters, Connecticut poet Nancy Meneely and Grammy-nominated composer Sarah Meneely-Kyder, have collaborated on a sensitive and magnificent choral masterwork. Their Letter from Italy, 1944 brings its listeners to tears with its faithful and insightful recounting of their father’s journey. This soldier’s story holds truth for anyone who has gone to war, or loved someone who has.  With your help, they can bring John Meneely’s inspiring true story to the stage, telling it through powerful music and poetry.

Your contribution through the Chorale’s New Choral Works Initiative, supporting Letter From Italy, 1944, will help them deliver the life work of two sisters to a rapt Connecticut audience - and the world. Every generation has been touched by war. From the World Wars, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan - we all know someone whose life has been changed by war.
