Rain Cancels Tonight's Northeast Regional Legion Baseball Tourney

Organizers are keeping an eye on the weather to determine if Saturday's games at Palmer Field in Middletown will be postponed.

Friday's entire Northeast Regional American Legion baseball tournament schedule has been postponed because of rain.

Mike Gort, national representative and tournament director, will announce this evening a decision concerning Saturday's games. Essentially, the decision will be whether to play four or five games Saturday.

If the Legion opts for four games, the schedule will be as follows: At 9:30, Woonsocket, R.I., will play Rochester, N.H., and that will be followed by the Colchester, Vt., vs. Windham, Maine. game.

The losers of those two games will be eliminated. At 4:30, Branford will play Barnstable, Mass. and that will be followed by the Worcester, Mass., vs. Middletown game, both winners' bracket games.

If the Legion decides to play five games tomorrow, the above schedule will begin at 8:30 and the fourth game of the day will see the winner of the Colchester/Windham game play the loser of the Branford/Barnstable game. In that case, two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday.

For local consumption, both Branford will play its game and Middletown will play its game Saturday, the only question is the time of the games.

In a four-game day, the games will be at 4:30 and approximately 7:30. If the Legion decides to play five games, then the start time of both games would be moved up three hours.

The decision will be made later today and will be posted online immediately.

The American Legion World Series in Shelby, N.C., runs Aug. 16-20.
