Middletown Blue Dragons Hope to Crush Darien in State Football Playoffs

A win Saturday would pit the 11-1 team against the winner of the North Haven / New Canaan game in the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference finals next weekend.

Fresh off a crushing 49-14 win over rivals the New London Whalers in the state championship quarterfinals Tuesday, Middletown's Blue Dragons face off against Darien's Blue Wave Saturday in Southbury in the semis.  

The Middletown Blue Dragons (full roster) will be led by Head Coach Sal Morello.

A win Saturday for Middletown would pit the 11-1 team against the winner of the North Haven / New Canaan game in the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference finals next weekend at Central Connecticut State University in New Britain.

On Thursday, Gatorade named the Blue Dragons' junior quarterback and defensive back Dario Highsmith as its Connecticut Football Player of the Year with a chance at the national title

Saturday's game starts at 2 p.m. at Pomperaug High School, 234 Judd Road, Southbury. General admission is $10, students and seniors $5.

The Blue Dragons have to stop Darien's passing attack to win. A low scoring game favors MHS. Dario has to make the right reads and mix up more passing to win. MHS line has to dominate a smaller and quicker Darien line. Power favors MHS.
