Middlefield's Tim Boyle to Play Starting QB for UConn

UConn's Xavier High School graduate has been given the reigns to UConn's offense.

Paul Paquiloni's departure as UConn's football coach wasn't the only news from the team this week as a local standout has been named to take over the team's offense.

Shortly after taking the reigns of UConn's football program, interim Coach T.J. Weist announced that freshmen Tim Boyle will be the starting quarterback during next week's game against against South Florida.

Boyle, 19, is a Middlefield resident who attended Xavier High School in Middletown. Weist chose him over junior Chandler Whitmer, The Hartford Courant reported. The decision was reportedly made last week, the Associated Press reported.

"We tried to give Timmy some time to develop, give him an opportunity to be on the road and experience the whole thing, get as much practice in under his belt before we threw him in there," Weist told the news outlet.

The interim coach went on to tell the Courant's Desmond Conner that Boyle, "has really worked up to the depths from the minute he stepped out here and consistently has been effective."

Boyle gained much notoriety in Connecticut high school football in the past year, having been named Player of the Year by the Connecticut High School Coaches' Association.

As a standout quarterback for the Xavier Falcons, Boyle passed for nearly 2,500 yards and 24 touchdowns during the 2012 season in leading the team to its third straight state title. He also carried the ball for 295 yards and five touchdowns.

He also famously threw a 94-yard TD in last year's state championship game. See the above video capturing the event.
