National Prevention Week: Take the Prevention Pledge

May 20-26 is National Prevention Week. Take the prevention pledge, talk to others about the prevention of substance abuse and the promotion of mental, emotional and behavioral well-being

Rushford and the Meriden Healthy Youth Council are pleased to promote National Prevention Week, a new annual health observance supported by SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) that celebrates the work that community organizations and individuals do year-round to prevent substance abuse and promote mental, emotional, and behavioral well-being.

National Prevention Week is May 20-26th.  The inaugural theme is “We are the ones” and promotes how local communities are taking action.  A Statewide Media Campaign Press Conference is being held on May 21, 2012 at 1 p.m.  The press conference will be held at the State Capitol and Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman will lead off the press conference with an announcement of the launch of the Set the Rules CT  state media campaign for the prevention of underage drinking.  This press conference is being held on National Underage Drinking Prevention Day and promotes the work being done at the state and community levels.

The five themed days are part of a statewide effort to provide a cohesive and consistent message for Connecticut’s youth. Each day will focus on SAMHSA’s themes on these particular topics. Links to resources are below:
