Wu and Eldirany Lead Xavier Class of 2012

Middletown's Xavier High School announces valedictorian and salutatorian

 

has announced the names of the two seniors who will represent the top of the Class of 2012: Victor C. Wu of Durham, valedictorian, and Sherif A. Eldirany of Glastonbury, salutatorian. 

Victor C. Wu ranks first among the members of this year’s graduating class and will deliver the valedictory address at graduation on May 20.  Victor is 2nd vice president of the National Honor Society and in his junior year served as vice president or the Latin Honor Society.

He is a recipient of the Brother Celestine Award for Academic Excellence and qualified as a National Merit Scholarship Finalist.  The 2011 recipient of the CT Association of Schools Governor's Scholar Award, Victor also received highest possible score of 2400 in his SAT testing. 

He is a member of the math team and was the Secretary for the Mu Alpha Theta, Math Honor Society as a junior. Among his other activities, Victor has been a captain on the Debate Team and Envirothon, vice president of the Ryken Service Society and served a Homeroom Representative to the Student Activities Council in his freshman and sophomore years. Victor was one of the ten juniors who travelled to New Orleans for a week-long service trip to help rebuild homes destroyed in Hurricane Katrina.

In sports, he has been a member of the Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field Teams and played Soccer as a freshman. He is the son of Zhijun Wu and Fay Chen of Durham and has been accepted at Harvard University. Victor has an academic interest in Philosophy and would like to add to his skill set in the area of Sustainable Energy tech that would include areas of applied physics and engineering.

The second ranking graduate of the class is Sherif A. Eldirany. He will give the welcoming address at the Xavier graduation.  Sherif is archivist for the National Honor Society, vice president of the Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society, president of the French Honor Society as a junior, recipient of the Brother Celestine Award for Academic Excellence and qualified as a National Merit Scholarship Finalist. 

He was a member of the math team as a junior and of the Jazz Band for the last three years. Sherif is a four year member of the Tennis Team and participated in Crew as a freshman. The son of Ahmed Eldirany and Amal Abdel Raouf of Glastonbury, Sherif is planning to attend the University of Connecticut in the Pre-Med program.
