Wesleyan Custodians Continue to Protest Working Conditions, Employee Cuts

Workers say their employer, Sun Services, is subjecting them to unfair hikes in responsibility.

Their numbers have dwindled somewhat, but a group of custodians continue to protest working conditions at Wesleyan University.

The Middletown Press reported that roughly 35 people staged their third protest at the university this past week against Shelton-based Sun Services, saying the service provider has been subjecting the workers with unfair conditions and reduced staffing.

A leader of the workers union representing the custodians told The Press they hope to put pressure on Wesleyan itself, which contracts with Sun, because the grievance process could carry out longer than desired.

The custodial workers are responsible for cleaning dormitories at the Middletown university.
