City Elementary Gets 275 Books From Reading is Fundamental

The Reading Is Fundamental and First Book distribution is the second wave of 1 million given out before major school breaks — critical times when many children in need lack access to books at home.

Reading Is Fundamental and First Book, two of the nation’s leading children’s literacy nonprofits have united to distribute 1 million new, high-quality children’s books to RIF programs nationwide throughout this school year.

Through this partnership, 275 students at Macdonough Elementary School will receive books to keep as their very own as part of the school’s “Spring into Reading” celebration.

Primary funding for this initiative was provided by Macy’s, a long-time RIF partner along with support from several major children’s book publishers.

“We are honored to have been selected for this donation of books, said Mary Beth Brick, a reading consultant at Macdonough School. While spring is traditionally a time for children and families to get back outside to enjoy the warmer weather, we also want to continue to promote time for reading together."
