Middletown High Schoolers Back in Classes After Bomb Threat Prompts Evacuation

Middletown High School students and staff are back in class after an evacuation to Keigwin Middle School early Wednesday after a bomb threat, according to police.

Superintendent of Schools Patricia Charles said she received a phone call from Middletown High Principal Colleen Weiner at 7 a.m. and promptly alerted police.

"I don't even know what it was," Charles said, but police determined it wasn't a danger.

As a safety precaution, some student were kept on their buses until authorities allowed them to safely re-enter the building.

Buses at the middle and grade school level ran about 25 minutes late because of the delay. Parents district wide were alerted to the incident in an 8 a.m. Honeywell alert, which called the item a "questionable package."

On April 29, a bomb threat was called into Woodrow Wilson Middle School in Middletown. That prompted a police search of the school. At the time, Charles said she couldn't comment on who made the threat or what the threat specifically included, but she said that "kids may think these types of things are a joke and they're not."
