Middletown Adult Ed Confers 85 Degrees, Grads Commended on Perseverance

Mayor Dan Drew commended the graduates for seizing an opportunity to create a better future for themselves and the children who look up to them.

Lauded for their fortuitousness, 85 members of the Middletown Adult Education Class of 2013 were told to reach for their dreams Tuesday night in a ceremony at the standing-room-only Middletown High School.

"Some of the kids I had at Woodrow Wilson," said Middletown Board of Education Chair Eugene Nocera, former vice principal at the middle school. "They stuck it out. Good for them," he said.

In all, 42 students received high school credit diplomas, 11 earned external diplomas and 32 a State of Connecticut high school diploma.

"In life you have a lot of opportunities to do good things and you seized this opportunity," Mayor Dan Drew told the graduates. "You're going to change the world, and you set an example for all the children in this audience tonight who are looking up to you. Your whole world is in front of you. The future is in front of you."
