City Schools Closed Mon, Tues For Hurricane Sandy

School administrator confirms with Middletown Patch that the city's elementary, middle and high schools will not be in session due in anticipation of the hurricane.

Middletown Public Schools will be closed on Monday and Tuesday, the two days in which Hurricane Sandy is expected to make land fall with excessive rains and high winds on the East Coast.

Superintendent Patricia Charles told Middletown Patch on Saturday that the district has decided to keep students out of school in anticipation of the effects of Sandy.

The storm is expected to begin hitting this area of the region by Sunday evening and continue on into Monday and possibly Tuesday, experts say.

Patch is about to cover a press conference headed up by Middletown Mayor Dan Drew. The conference is expected to start shortly.

Gov. Dannel Malloy has signed an emergency declaration in anticipation of the storm and has told shoreline residents they should evacuate.
