Talk by Wesleyan Economics Professor Richard Adelstein

Wesleyan Woodhouse/Sysco Professor of Economics Richard Adelstein will talk about the history of corporate power and the writing of his new book, The Rise of Planning in Industrial America, 1865-1914.  The book explores the transformation undergone by business in the U.S. over the half-century following the Civil War -- from small sole proprietorships and partnerships to massive corporations possessing many of the same constitutional rights as living men and women, leading up to the Supreme Court's controversial 2010 Citizens United decision.

The talk will be preceded by a brief Friends of the Wesleyan Library Annual Meeting.

This event is free and open to the public.  It will take place in the Develin Room, 2nd floor of Olin Memorial Library, Wesleyan University, 252 Church St.
