Sustainable Lawns: Talk hosted by the Connecticut Horticultural Society, West Hartford

Thomas Christopher, a nationally recognized author and lecturer from Middletown, will dispel the reputation of lawn as an eco-villain as he shares alternatives to turf and describes lawn-care practices that are more gentle on the environment than those widely practiced today.
Christopher is a magazine columnist and inveterate blogger on all things gardening, green and sustainable.

A graduate of the New York Botanical Garden's School of Professional Horticulture, he has written for 25 years for a wide range of publications, including the New York Times, Martha Stewart Living and Britain's Daily Telegraph.
He has two new books published: The New American Landscape: Leading Voices on the Future of Sustainable Gardening (Timber Press); and The Artful Garden: Creative Inspiration for Landscape Design (Random House), co-authored with landscape architect, James van Sweden.

The talk is sponsored by the Connecticut Horticultural Society and will be held at Emanuel Synagogue, 160 Mohegan Dr., West Hartford. The fee is $10 (CHS members and full-time students with ID free).
