Gathering Family

The Jewish Genealogical Society of Connecticut will meet on Sunday, April 15, 2012, at 1:30 pm.  The program at Godfrey Library, 134 Newfield Street, Middletown, is open to all.

The speaker, Dr. Ruth Brennan, is a human resource management and communications consultant with extensive experience in Connecticut.  She recently completed Gathering Family, a memoir of her family’s immigration from Eastern Europe at the turn of the twentieth century.

Spanning a century through stories, diaries and pictures, it is an immigrant’s true story.  It starts with Ruth’s grandmother’s amazing turn-of-the-century journey across Eastern Europe, and tells the story of how three generations prospered in America.  Set first in Eastern Europe and then in the Jewish world of New York’s Lower East Side and Queens, the book contrasts the generations with some remarkable stories.
