The Middletown Planning and Zoning meeting scheduled for Wednesday evening has been postponed to Feb. 27 (see agenda attached).
The sun was shining early Tuesday, as city life began bustling toward its usual pace, pedestrians walked sidewalks and carefully transversed slush piles and moats of water gathered in low points.
Middletown's Superintendent of Schools Patricia Charles has moved tonight's Board of Education meeting from city hall council chambers to the Tychsen Building at 311 Hunting Hill Avenue, due access concerns and the safety of the public. (We've attached the agenda as a pdf here).
She also has closed schools through Thursday. Friday is a city-wide professional development day and Monday is President's Day. That leaves Tuesday, Feb. 19, which was originally scheduled as a holiday. Charles now says she's debating whether or not to recall classes on Feb. 19 to plan for possible more snow days this winter.
"Technically, we should go into April vacation," Charles says, "but if we add this one day [in February], we can have the full vacation week in April." She's having the conversation right now with the union.
Middletown Patch walked around city streets Tuesday, taking photographs of society slouching toward normal (see gallery). And we captured this cool video last night at the Buttonwood Tree.
Middletown Police posted a sign at headquarters saying those citizens whose cars are towed because of the parking ban, which is still in effect, must pay $110 (towing and parking fine) in full by cash, bank check or money order to retrieve their vehicles.
There is a parking can in effect until further notice, according to the city website.
Xavier High School is closed today and Wednesday's JV Hockey Game is cancelled and today's basketball game (all three levels) is postponed. Mercy High School has canceled school and activities today.
Russell Library remains closed Tuesday and classes resume at Middlesex Community College and Quinnipiac University on Wednesday.
