Middletown High Athletic Director Earns CIAC Service Award

In earning this designation, Michael Pitruzzello has demonstrated the highest ideals of sportsmanship, integrity, and leadership.

 

Middletown High School's Director of Athletics Michael Pitruzzello was honored last month with a Meritorious Service Award at the Connecticut Association of Athletic Directors 29th Annual Athletic Directors Conference.

This award, named in honor of one of the primary founders of CAAD, is presented annually to an individual who has served as an athletic administrator for a minimum of 20 years and has demonstrated the highest ideals of sportsmanship, integrity, and leadership in the performance of their duties.  This award also considers the nominees record of service and contributions to high school athletics.

Last July, Pitruzzello was one of 44 coaches chosen nationwide as finalists for the National High School Athletic Coaches Association coach of the year.

This past February, Pitruzzello and Xavier High School Athletic Director Anthony Jaskot announced the city teams would not play on Thanksgiving in 2013.

The March 21 and 22 event was held at the Sheraton Hartford South, Rocky Hill. Throughout, several workshops were held to discussed critical issues in student sports.

Topics included: School Safety After School, Legal Issues, Facility Design and Middle School Sports. CIAC staff review CIAC rules and regulations and Jim Johnson from Greece Athens High School of New York gave a motivational presentation.
