Kathryn Lee Wins Award Named for Xaverian Brothers Founder

The Ryken Award is presented to a person chosen by his or her Xavier High School co-workers as an exemplary model of Christian dedication.

Kathryn Lee, chair of the English Department at Xavier High School in Middletown was honored recently for her Christian dedication to students.

Xavier High School Headmaster Brother Brian Davis, C.F.X., addressed the school assembly in the Kohs Gymnasium Friday morning as the school celebrated the Feast of St. Francis Xavier. 

"Each year in Xaverian schools," Davis said, "it has become the custom to honor one member of the faculty or staff with the Ryken Award, presented to a person chosen by his or her co-workers as an exemplary model of Christian dedication."

"Here at Xavier, past reward recipients include Mrs. Linda Charpentier, Brother Thomas Fahey, Mrs. Andrea Hoisl, Brother Robert Houlihan, Mr. Tony Jaskot, Mr. Richard Magner, Brother Thomas Ryan, Ms. Jayne Vitale, Brother James Boyle, Mrs. Joan Tomasiello, and last year Mr. Andrew T. Gargano."

When asked for award nominations, faculty and staff are asked to offer explanations for their selection. Comments offered for this year’s Ryken Award winner include:

Lee is chair of Xavier's English Department and moderator of the school's yearbook "The Don." Lee holds a masters degree from St. Louis University has taught at Xavier since 2003 and was named department chair in 2008.

The Ryken Award is named after Theodore James Ryken, the founder of the Xaverian Brothers.
