Teen Charged With Robbing Wesleyan Students at Gunpoint Due Back in Court

Nicholas Vinci, 18, of Cromwell, who is also charged in an April 18 attack at gunpoint of a construction worker at the Nathan Hale School in New London, will return to Middletown Superior Court on Nov. 30.

 

The 18-year-old Cromwell man accused of duct-taping two Wesleyan University students in their dorm in April, then making off with cash and electronics, appeared in Middletown Superior Court on Friday, according to the Middletown Press.

Nicholas Vinci, 18, 24 Evergreen Road, is charged with first-degree robbery, first-degree home invasion, two counts of second-degree threatening, first-degree kidnapping with the use of a firearm and third-degree larceny.

He was to be sentenced for other charges from when he was a youthful offender, the Press reports, and his case was continued to Nov. 30 so a combined sentence could be imposed.

On April 7, officers responded to a call for help from Foss Hill Drive Nicolson Residence Hall on campus. A Wesleyan student and another Nicholson resident were robbed at gunpoint, according to the report.

The suspect, a heavyset white male, 5 feet six inches tall, bound students with duct tape and took their money and electronics. Shortly after the suspect fled, according to the report, the students freed themselves and called police. They were not injured.

The suspect, police say, was wearing a grey sweatshirt and blue jeans and was carrying a red and black backpack. The hand gun was silver and green.

Vinci is one of three suspects involved in a New London incident on April 19. According to the New London Day, police found a loaded pistol in the glove compartment of a car that was seized from three men accused of attacking a construction worker at the Nathan Hale School.

On April 26, all three were charged with second-degree assault, second-degree reckless endangerment and breach of peace.

Vinci has a two pending cases in the judicial court system, with a slew of charges.
