U.S. Senate Race: How Much Have Your Middletown Neighbors Given?

Information for the U.S. Senate candidates listed in the dropdown above has been updated as of the most recent campaign finance filing deadline, July 15, according to the Federal Election Commission.

The next deadline is Oct. 15, the FEC says.

In Middletown, Susan Bysiewicz, who is challenging Murphy in the Democratic primary, has the most donations among the candidates listed. There are a number of residents who have given the maximum $2,500 several times.

In fact, between her three children, Tristan, Layna and Ava, husband David Donaldson; father Stanley Bysiewicz and a Nancy Lee Bysiewicz (both retired), there were 15 donations of $2,500 and three $2,300 donations to her campaign.

Bhumba Drok-Sang, who lists his occupation as owner of Little Tibet, which closed last June in Middletown, gave $2,500 in March to her campaign. Attorney Ralph Wilson gave $1,000 to Bysiewicz in June.

Democrat Chris Murphy received $2,500 each from John LoMonte, Real Estate appraiser and broker; and Teresa LoMonte, Real Estate appraiser and office clerk.

Neither Republicans Linda McMahon or Kie Westby (who graduated from Wesleyan Univeristy in 1973) received a single donation in Middletown.

Republican Chris Shays, who is challenging McMahon for the nomination, received a single $250 donation from a Middletown housewife, Joan Stone.

Independent candidate Lee Whitnum, a Greenwich resident whose past occupations include teacher, software engineer and paralegal, is not listed in the searchable database because she reported no financial activity, according to the FEC.

Candidates filing during the last reporting period who are listed:

  • Linda McMahonRepublican, Greenwich resident, former president and CEO of Titan Sports;
  • Chris MurphyDemocrat, Cheshire resident, former U.S. Representative (5th District) and state senator;
  • Republican, Bridgeport resident, former U.S. Representative (4th District) and state representative;
  • Kie WestbyRepublican, Southbury resident, attorney.

According to the Federal Elections Commission, certain items must be met in order to donate to a campaign.

1) Must be a United States citizen or a permanent resident alien.

2) Contributions are not made from the general treasury funds of a corporation, labor organization or national bank.

3) Contributions arenot made from the treasury of an entity or person who is a federal contractor.

4) Funds donated are not being provided to me by another person or entity for the purpose of making this contribution.

5) If under 18, contributions are made knowingly and voluntarily with an individual's own funds.
