T-Shirt, Electronics Recycling, Prop Mgmt Firms Eye Remington Rand Leases

Middletown's Economic Development Commission Monday has several items to consider, including

Monday's Economic Development Commission will take up several items, including leases for three local businesses moving to what's become the rapidly expanding Remington Rand building.

With leases approved for Sow Fresh Organics and Forest City Brewery in the former Keating Wheel Co. and typewriter factory on North Main Street in Middletown, three others are hoping to relocate to the site near the transfer station.

Robert C. White & Company on Chamberlain Road is a central Connecticut property management firm that's been around for 50 years. It provides property management services for single family homes, condos, townhouses and small multi-family builidings.

TheComputerRecycler.com began in 2002 and began originally as an offshoot of The Computer Works repair company in Cromwell, has now expanded into a large electronic recycling service used by businesses, towns, and individuals. Since June 2008 they've been located at 400 Corporate Row in Cromwell.

The Nice T-Shirt silk-screening company, run by Durham couple Joel and Susan Volenec is also seeking to expand to the Remington Rand building. Clients of this nine-year-old business include Perk On Main, Lino's Market and Torrison Stone and customers in places like New Jersey, Hawaii and Canada. They recently added a Pure Yogi product line, which includes everything from yoga pants to yoga mats and blocks to water bottles.

In other new business, the City of Middletown is hoping to buy two former Long Lane School properties now in disrepair from the State of Connecticut. According to meeting minutes the state is offering to sell 131 and 155 Wadsworth Street, a half and a third of an acre, for $1 for the city to use as open space. 

The meeting takes place in city hall council chambers at 7 p.m.
