The call center is now open Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.; it previously closed on Thursdays at 5 p.m. The center also is open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Parents or members of the public seeking general information on child support may call 1-800-228-5437 (KIDS) to reach the center.

“Families stressed by the recession need child support now more than ever,” Charisse Hutton, director of the Judicial Branch’s Support Enforcement Services, said. “The extended hours are a real convenience for working families who may not be able to call during regular business hours.”

Support Enforcement piloted the extended hours in May and made them permanent in September. The call center handles about 8,000 calls every month and is staffed by knowledgeable, bilingual customer service representatives. A language-line translation service is available to facilitate communication with callers who speak languages other than Spanish.
