Middletown's New Senior Center Will Have $4.86M Price Tag

MA&M Inc. , doing business as Aresco Construction, will construct the new Eckersley-Hall senior center and community center at the site of the old St. Sebastian School.

The city's Eckersley-Hall Building Committee accepted a local contractor's bid to build a new senior center at a special meeting Tuesday, according to the Middletown Press.

The group voted unanimously to contract with MA&M Inc., doing business as Aresco Construction, for bid estimate of $4,680,000, which doesn't include security cameras and features that will affect the city’s bottom line, according to the Press.

Last week, the city entertained three bids ranging from $4.59 million to $5.46 million to construct the senior center.

Eckersley-Hall Building Committee Chair and Councilman Ron Klattenberg said his commission approved a base bid of $4,516,000, and an additional $62,000 for a pervious paving patio, $40,000 for radiant heat at the entrance, $28,000 for a patio pergola, $20,000 for demolition of the Military Museum, $5,000 for landscaping and $9,000 for the boiler.
 
Mayor Dan Drew will hold a press conference to announce the state tax credits reserved for the project at Eckersley-Hall on Friday at 2 p.m.

Montagno Construction of Waterbury bid $4.594 million, Aresco Construction of Middletown offered the job for $4.86 million and Haynes Construction of Seymour quoted $5.459 million, the Courant reports.

The $4.85 million project to renovate the Eckersley Hall Building on Durant Terrace is tentatively set to begin in September and should be done within nine to 12 months.

The former St. Sebastian School building on Durant Street will need to undergo a series of improvements to make it ADA compliant and for it to meet safety and fire codes for a senior and municipal center, along with other improvements.
