Safety Group Urges Ban on Gas Line-Clearing Practice
The National Fire Protection Association joins the U.S. Chemical Safety Board urging the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration to make 'gas blowing' illegal in wake of Feb. 7, 2010, Kleen Energy blast that killed six workers.
National Fire Protection Association President James M. Shannon announced his call for a ban on the practice of "gas blowing," a procedure used to clear lines in the Kleen Energy explosion that killed six people and injured 50 on Feb. 10, 2010, at a press conference at Middletown City Hall Tuesday.
The National Fire Protection Association joins recommendations to the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration from the U.S. Chemical Safety Board.
Those killed were: Raymond Dobratz Jr., 58, of Old Saybrook; Peter Chepulis, 48, of Thomaston; Ronald Crabb, 42, of Colchester; Chris Walters, 48, of Florissant, Mo.; Roy Rushton, 36, of Hamilton, Ontario; and Kenneth Haskell, 37, of New Durham, N.H.
